Discord-ia Server

Screenshot: ILLUMINATI Discord server

We’ve spent most of June and July on our Discord server, where we’ve had an increasingly larger number of players joining us. In one 9-hour period after inviting a new wave, I handed out more than 50 Steam keys—and that was from midnight to 9 AM Pacific. As usual, of course, Radar’s on-boarded more people than I have, though I’ve remained on point for interacting with people on Discord. That doesn’t really scale so we’ll need to do something about that soon enough.

For now, it’s been a real pleasure to share the game in its current state, mostly because it’s increasingly better every few days. Since most of the text I’m producing has been funneled into Discord rather than our newly formed (and then seemingly abandoned) dev blog, here are the release notes for last Friday’s build.

ILLUMINATI RELEASE NOTES 2022-07-22

New build now available on Steam—again, restart Steam if you don’t see the game updating

FIXED

- Serious overhaul of Attack to Destroy behavior—greater resilience in swapping out targets and attackers

- Servants of Cthulhu bonus applying to Control when attack in progress switches from Destroy

- Newly controlled card may not properly populate card data on Player 2’s client

- Selecting rival Illuminati choose it as attacker, though placements appear on your own board

- Proximity Protection could report as doubled in buggy attack cases

- Multiplayer games would never start if 1st player chose Illuminati quickly

- Resistance could increase with every switch of attacker/target

- Main Menu can appear on top of Deck Browser

- New-style “Cancel Game” controls

- Restored art for China 1990

- Restored tooltips for Bank, Church

- PreviewCard: Attributes no longer squished

- UPDATED SOUNDS: Bavaria (a few), Bermuda (many), Cthulhu (all)

- Should now support Windows PCs which won't drop down to DirectX 11

FIXED (again)

- Cthulhu victory miscalculation

- Deck Browser should report Eras as 1980s, 1990s, 2020s

KNOWN ISSUES

- Press F-11 to drop into windowed mode; adding note to splash screen

- Full-screen mode may crop game view on non-16:9 displays; use windowed mode until resolved

- If target has already been selected, can’t switch attack leader from Group to Illuminati until after target’s placement has been selected

- Once a multiplayer game has ended, you must quit app before starting another; new multiplayer game will not successfully connect to network

- In multiplayer game, when viewing rival’s conspiracy and switching between targets by selecting groups on the board (vs in dossiers) causes previous group to remain selected

- Bavaria’s Success and Failure sounds are the same

- Music currently muted in game; current audio focus is on sound effects

CHANGES TO COME

- Show Actions as large glowing circle beside Group name

- Dossier section headers to divide each group (yours, neutral, rival’s)

- Make control tabs look like arrows

- Place spinner in Setup move button area

- Display the Science and Green attributes

- …and a lot more One final note: Windows & Mac builds are slightly out of sync. There should be no logic or timing inconsistencies, though we recommend preferring same-platform multiplayer games until next round of builds (expected late Sunday).

LASTLY

Finally getting more specific stats on game requirements. Will tweak as we learn more.

Windows 7 or higher. macOS Big Sur or higher.

Storage: 3 GB free space

Memory: 8 GB

EDIT: The current Windows build is not generating logs. Disappointing; getting on that.
